ReSolute

Creating a completely new value chain

logo resolute noir
The European ReSolute project is building a unique industrial plant to convert cellulosic biomass waste into safe and sustainable chemicals. Applications are expected in various industrial markets.

The main biobased chemical product produced in the ReSolute plant will be the new solvent CyreneTM, which technically replaces petrochemicals such as NMP, DMF and DMSO. This project aims to increase the protection of human health and the environment, optimise resource efficiency, reduce dependence on non-renewable sources, and create jobs. ReSolute contributes to the development of a sustainable and circular bioeconomy in Europe.

The main objectives are:

  • To build and successfully operate a unique flagship plant as an integrated biorefinery producing bio-based chemicals without waste,
  • Produce levoglucosenone (LGO) in a sustainable way using cellulosic biomass waste, and convert LGO into CyreneTM bio-solvent,
  • Valuing the main by-product of the process (biochar) in the activated carbon market,
  • To cover the entire value chain, from raw material supply to the production of high value-added products, and thus satisfy market demand,
  • Ensure that the ReSolute plant will be fully sustainable and replicable.
