Scale

Developing the production of natural ingredients from microalgae

logo scale
SCALE is a European project whose objective is to build the world’s first industrial microalgae biorefinery producing high added value natural ingredients for the nutrition and wellness sectors.

The SCALE project aims to replace products of fossil origin with bio-based ingredients offering the same or better properties with less impact. It aims to increase the flexibility and accessibility of raw materials through microalgae and create new cross-sectoral connections in the bioeconomy.

The main objectives are:

  • Produce new natural and safe ingredients on a large scale for cosmetic, food, feed and dietary supplement applications,
  • Ensure sustainability by building this biorefinery in a fully integrated way (converting biomass without generating waste),
  • To meet the growing market demand by demonstrating the quality and efficacy of products obtained from microalgae (in full compliance with FDA and European regulations).
